April: Pièce maîtresse (Párizsi élet, Bobinet/Métella/Gardefeu)
May:
November: Love etc. (Top Gun, Iceman/Maverick)

Overall

Doozy of a year. I spent 2020 being creative while in denial and avoiding responsibilities. Meanwhile 2021 I was forced into the latter and I can’t say I didn't achieve shit on that front, but I was/am too depressed to do hobbies properly (though it is a matter of getting my shit together for me; just…not great at seeing hobbies as something worth making time for) and then Bad Stuff hit me like a freight train, so yeah. Anyway almost everything I wrote ended up being from exchanges and I'm glad I did them, really. Nice to have something to look back at.

Most popular story

Love etc. Top Gun always comes through :)

Story most underappreciated by the universe

Pièce maîtresse, I suppose? Párizsi élet isn't very popular overall I guess, but that's ok.

Most controversial story

Very safe this year, imo. I guess the feet kink stuff might've been, if more people read it :D

Hardest story to write

Drabbles are unexpectedly hard! Though to be fair, there's only so much time they can take. Choreographing threesomes very difficult also.

Favorite title

Pièce maîtresse! I'm not clever enough for puns usually, but that one worked out! Pièce maîtresse is the centerpiece of table - I really wanted some kinda restaurant metaphor - but she both used to be a mistress but also she’s the mistress here, geddit :D

Favorite line/scene

Through hollow lands: "[H]ow he, a youngster himself, had once dreamed of retaking Khazad-dûm— but that was the stuff of legends." Gives me shivers, if I may say so myself.
Also like the image of Ice slipping off his shoes in Love etc.

Favorite character to write about this year

Lowkey enjoyed writing Mycroft. He was my fave wayy back when I wrote baby's first fics and I wouldn't have thought anything involving him would ever see the light of day on my proper account.

Looking back, did you write more stories than you thought you would this year, fewer than you thought or about what you predicted?

I probably expected to get more done considering how productive I was last year. On the other hand, at the moment it feels like a miracle to manage to create anything at all.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted? What fic didn't you expect to write?

Oh for sure neither Sherlock, Doctor Who or The Hobbit. Those are fandoms I am/was into but not fandoms I saw as writing fandoms for me, y'know. Drabbles were a nice icebreaker.

Story that could have been better?

I'm good with what I managed. Probably all the ones I didn't finish.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

Can't say? I was pretty scared of writing for Párizsi élet because of the limited accessibility meaning a hard time with character voices, but people seemed to like it!

Fic you wanted to write but didn't

Hmmm….I'd been poking at lots of István á király WIPs (wives, all wives) for a while, but it's all the kind of origfic-adjacent stuff I never manage to finish. I did manage to think of a way to fix some issues I ran into with them, so maybe one day.

What's next for 2022

Just hoping I'll have a bit of time/headspace/etc to produce something about current obsessions! I'd like to try Season of Kink again (at least the Holiday one, though that's pretty soon so ehhh. Otoh the proper challenge is soooo long ahead). When you hit a fandom that really works on the multi-kink front it's so much fun!
